Mentoring and Personal Guidance

To help the learning process and support the students, each class is assigned a mentor. This concept of mentoring comes from "Guided Learning".The role of the Mentor is to contribute to the total development of the students under her/his care.

Objectives of Mentoring :

  • To be supportive towards the student and be a link between the student and the department.
  • To motivate the students for continuous improvement in academic and in extra-curricular activities.
  • To help a student in any specific way in which he or she may require guidance.
  • To help him/her choose a relevant area of study which will help him / her to attain his / her career.

Methodology of Mentoring :

  • Having a bio-data of the student in a fixed format.
  • Getting the academic performance of the students up-to-date.
  • Making a progression chart of the students under one’s care from pre-entry level on.
  • Keeping track of the regularity of the students and taking necessary corrective measures.
  • Meeting the students under care individually and as a group.
  • Encouraging the students to meet him/her, when needed and making himself / herself available in a fixed place and time.
  • Respecting students’ views and carrying a dialogue when necessary.
  • Monitoring the attendance of students after every month and to propose to the authorities to invite the parents, if necessary.
  • Recommending to the HODs students’ request for leave up to two days, discerning the urgency and need of the request.
  • Identifying students who would require professional guidance and encouraging them to meet the counselor.
  • Arranges for challenging assignments for high-scoring students and additional support to low-scoring students.
  • Creating networking opportunity for students with the alumni for better prospects.
  • Preparing the students for job interviews and also in the area of career management.

To make the mentoring responsibility more effective, the college has introduced a Mentoring Manual in which all the relevant data of the students can be stored and can be referred to, when required. The mentors have been regularly in touch with the parents/guardians to involved them in the formation of the students.
