Department of Language

Our Vision:-

To strive towards the overall enhancement of language skills encompassing Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (LSRW) and to help the students incorporate a sense of confidence and proficiency in multilingual learning.

Our Mission:-

To understand the need of acceptance and participation in a pluralistically rich and diverse society, with the education imparted from the department and to make the students logically correct, intellectually sound and emotionally sensitive.

About Department:-

The Department of Languages was established on January 2015, comprising of Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam languages. The Department strives for the enhancement of language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing; thereby helping Claretines to become confident in their language proficiency both regional and national. The Department instils in the students the need for acceptance and participation in a pluralistically rich and diverse society. Thus, the Department’s initiatives are in line with the vision and mission of SCC. The department consists of 6 full-time and 3 part-time faculty members. Although new department, it has taken great strides forward in the year 2019-20.

Department Activities:-

National Seminar:

The Department of Language conducted National Level Seminar on 21st May 2019 in St. Claret College for both Kannada and Hindi languages. The presidential address was given by Rev. Dr. Sabu George. The topic of the seminar in Kannada was “Dr. Dara Bendre: Life and Literature” and in hindi it was “Chayavad Samsmrithi Evam Punarpatt”. The chief guest in Kannada Seminar was Dr. G. Krishnappa and in Hindi seminar, it was Dr. Shubha Srivatav, a well known writer and Lecturer in Queens College Varanasi. The convenor of the programme was Mr. Madesh. N, HOD of Languages. A number of various colleges from different states had attended the program. The total participants in Kannada were 50 members among which 45 members presented their papers and in Hindi 38 members had attended and 32 members presented papers successfully.

Kannada Rajyotsava:

On November 1st, 2018, at 11 am, the state flag of Karnataka was hoisted which gave a start to the program. The famous Kannada actor and drama artist Mr. Nagaraj Murthy, was the chief guest for the program. Mr. Madesh, the HOD of the Language Department welcomed the chief guest and all the audience present in the program. The chief guest gave a speech on the importance of language. Rev. Dr. Sabu George, the principal of the college honoured the chief guest and the presidential address and Fr. Hridayaraj gave the speech on Kannada Rajyotsava. Mrs. Shashikala, Asst. Prof of Kannada gave the vote of thanks. The program ended with fashion show and cultural music dance program along with the distribution of sweets. In every year we conducted Kannada Rajyotsawa in the campus.

Hindi Diwas:

The Dept. of Languages conducted ‘Hindi Diwas’ on 19-09-2018 in St. Claret College. The chief guest for the day was Dr. Ramkali Sharma, Hindi Prof. Surana College, Peenya. The faculty involved were Mr. Madesh. N, the H.O.D of Languages, Dr. Rashmi, Asst. Prof , Dr.Supriya Singh Asst prof, Nishi Pathak, Asst Prof St. Claret college. The program was concluded with the National Anthem.

The Dept. of Languages conducted ‘Hindi Diwas’ on 23-09-2019 in St. Claret College. The chief guest for the day was Gyanchand Marmagy Poet and writer. The faculty involved were Mr. Madesh. N, the H.O.D of Languages, Dr. Rashmi, Asst. Prof , Dr.Supriya Singh Asst prof, Dr. Atul Kumar Pandey, Asst Prof St. Claret college. The program was concluded with the National Anthem

Guest lectures:-

Mante Swami:

On 7th February 2019, St. Claret College conducted a guest lecture in auditorium for the Kannada students. Dr. Ranga Reddy Kodirampura was the guest of honour. Mrs. Shashikala, Asst. Prof of the Language Department introduced the guest and Mr. Madesh, HOD of the Language Department welcomed the guest with the bouquet. Dr. Ranga Reddy Kodirampura gave his lecture on Mante Swami, his life achievements, the growth of poetry, explaining Siddhapaji’s quote and Panchali’s quote. The whole life of Mante Swami enlightened our students, providing them good knowledge. Mr. Suresh N, lecturer in Kannada gave the vote of thanks. On 30th july 2019 st. claret college conducted a guest lecture in auditorium for the hindi student. Dr. Ranjana Pilaai was the guest of honour.

Vachana Vichara:

St. Claret College in association with Bengaluru district Sharana Sahitya Parishad organized a guest lecture on “Vachana Vichara” on 31st July 2018 at St. Claret auditorium, Jalahalli, Bengaluru. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. Basavaraj Sadhar, president of Akhila Bharatha Sharana Sahitya Parishath. The other guests of honour were Dr. Asha, faculty of S. Nijalingappa College and Dr. L. G. Meera, faculty of Maharani Science College. The other dignitaries on the dias was Rev. Dr. Sabu George (principal), Fr. Vineeth George (vice principal), and Mr. Madesh. N (HOD Language), Mrs. Shashikala, Mr. Siddhalingappa. S. Deshmukh and Mr. Suresha. N also were present for inaugural session. 400 students attended the program.

Hindi Sahityakaron Ka parichy Evm Par unka Samajik Prabhav:

A Hindi guest lecture was organized by Dept of Languages in St. Claret College A.V.1 ground floor on 31-07-2018. The resource person elaborated in detail about the topic ‘Hindi Sahityakaron Ka parichy Evm Par unka Samajik Prabhav’. Dr. V. Tara Nair from silicon city college, Bengaluru was the resource person. Dr.Rashmi, Asst.Prof welcomed and introduced the chief guest and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Supriya Singh, Asst Prof, St. Claret College. The program was concluded with the National Anthem.

Pragthivadi Chetana Ke Kavi Nagarjun :

A Hindi guest lecture was organized by Dept of Languages in St. Claret College A.V.1 ground floor on 08-02-2019. The resource person elaborated in detail about the topic ‘Pragthivadi Chetana Ke Kavi Nagarjun’. Dr. B.M. Hiremath from KLES, Nijalingappa College, Bengaluru was the resource person, honired by Mr Madesh N HOD of Languages. Dr. Rashmi, Asst. Prof welcomed and introduced the chief guest and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Supriya Singh , Asst. Prof, St. Claret college. The program was concluded with the National Anthem.

Sahity ka mahatv aur upyogita:

A Hindi guest lecture was organized by Dept of Languages in St. Claret College Auditorium on 30-07-2019. The resource person elaborated in detail about the topic ‘Hindi Sahityakaron Ka parichy Evm Par unka Samajik Prabhav’. Dr. Ranjana Pillai, was the resource person. Dr.Rashmi, Asst.Prof welcomed and introduced the chief guest and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Supriya Singh, Asst Prof, St. Claret College. Janapada Sahitya Mattu Vartmana(Folk Song):

St. Claret College in association with Bengaluru district Sharana Sahitya Parishad organized a guest lecture on “Janapada Sahitya Mattu Vartmana(Folk Song)” on 9st August 2019 at St. Claret auditorium, Jalahalli, Bengaluru. The chief guest for the occasion was Prof Umesh H MLA College Malleshwaram. The other dignitaries on the dias was Rev. Dr. Sabu George (principal), Fr. Abraham P.J (vice principal), and Mr. Madesh. N (HOD Language), Mrs. Shashikala, Mr. Siddhalingappa. S. Deshmukh . 300 students attended the program.

Yuvakaranede Kalyandedage (Workshop)

St. Claret College Language department organized a guest lecture on Yuvakaranede Kalyandedage (Workshop) at St. Claret auditorium, Jalahalli, Bengaluru. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. Mukundraj L and B. suresh director of Cinema .The other dignitaries on the dias was Rev. Dr. Sabu George (principal), Fr. Abraham P.J. (vice principal), and Mr. Madesh. N (HOD Language), Mrs. Shashikala, Mr. Siddhalingappa. S. Deshmukh and Mr. Suresha. N also were present for inaugural session. 300 students attended the program.

Kargil Vijay Divas

St. Claret College Language department organized Kargil Vijay Divasat at 26 July 2019 St. Claret Conference hall, Jalahalli, Bengaluru. The chief guest for the occasion was Brig. Ravi Muni swami (Retd).Fr. Abraham P.J.(vice principal), and Mr. Madesh. N (HOD Language), Mrs. Shashikala, Mr. Siddhalingappa. S. Deshmukh and Mr. Suresha. NCC & NSS studen also were present for inaugural session. 300 students attended the program.

Co-Curricular activities for Student:

Language department organized one day student trip to Ramanagar at 30 September 2019. Student visit Janapda folk museum.200 student visited. Prof. Madesh , Prof Shashikala & Prof Siddalingapp is with Student for guide.
