Ms. Ruby John
Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) Behaviour Therapist,
Shining Through Center for Children with Autism. Toronto, Canada.

Three years in St. Claret College totally changed me as a person. This statement might sound cliché to many, however the three years that I spent in Claret definitely molded me into the person I am today. I still remember the day I walked into Claret with my parents, my mind quite wary and filled with nervousness as the very science centered career that I had dreamed and desired off, quietly slipping away from my hands. I entered Claret to just talk about possible degree options as I was unsure of the career path that I need to take. We met with the then Vice Principal and the current Principal, Rev. Dr. Thomas Thennadiyil and just that one impactful conversation we had, lead my entire career pathway. He looked at my grades and then spoke to me about my passions and desires. With just this very brief conversation, Fr. Thennadiyil suggested that a degree in the Arts with Psychology, Journalism and English Literature will take me to heights in my career. Even though this sounded quite different from all the popular suggestions I had received (to take up science or commerce), I left the campus of Claret confident that the next three years of my life would be spent in this place doing my Bachelors in Arts. This has been the best decision of my life. The very fact that at a degree level, your faculty makes it a point to guide each student individually according to each student’s talent and caliber, speaks a great deal of the quality of education that St. Claret provided. My undergraduate years at St. Claret helped me with my leadership skills, my public speaking skills and even with my interpersonal relationship skills. The very rounded education I received, helped me further my career after my Bachelor’s. I went on to complete my Masters in Psychology and attained a university rank upon completion and then moved to Canada to finish a course in Behaviour Science Technology. I have now been fortunate to work as a behaviour therapist, delivering behaviour therapy for children with Autism for the last 3 years. If I had not taken that decision to complete my bachelors from St. Claret, I don’t think I would now be in a career that I am truly passionate and dedicated about. A career through which, I can change and impact many families.
