PG Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work at St Claret College offers Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW). In alignment with the vision and mission of the college, the Social Work program forms young people into social change agents. The department promotes social change, development, cohesion and the empowerment of people and communities. The teaching- learning approach in the program is predominantly field-based and action and intervention oriented. Students are nurtured to practice specialized skills at different levels and are comprehensively instructed in various disciplines of social sciences. The ultimate goal of the MSW program is to prepare students for professional practice with vulnerable children, youth, families, social welfare organizations, trade unions, rehabilitation centers, prisons and community development projects, etc.

Human Rights Club: The club is a student-led organization designed to provide students with opportunities to connect with other social work students and professional social workers, with the goal of helping students build an identity. Objectives are met through activities geared to learning, service and socialization. Programming generally includes contacts with professionals through speakers, agency visits, extension activities, documentaries and conferences.

Add on Program: The department, to make the social work education more meaningful, offers additional programs to the students to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Field Placement: The department provides the students with filed placement opportunities to experience some of the challenges in the real life situations and to apply what they learn in the classroom in the real world. The students go for regular field visits to both NGOs as well as government organisations like Help age India, Makkala Sahayavani, Vimochana and Selco foundation. They work in areas related to correctional Social work, Women and child, Human Rights, Sexual Minorities, disabled people and urban poverty alleviations.
