Workshop

Going beyond curriculum, the department organises several workshops and seminars so as to instil literacy, social awareness, cultural sensibilities, understanding of processes involved in the formation of cultures as well as develop critical thinking amongst students

• The Department, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a workshop on ‘Report Writing, Editing and Proof reading’, for all the faculties and students of final year Humanities on August 26, 2019.
• A one-day workshop on ‘Research and Academic Writing Skills’ was conducted on July 26, 2018. The workshop focused on helping students understand, think and write critically on their areas of interest.
• ‘World Mental Health Day’ was commemorated on October 10, 2017 by conducting awareness programmes about the social stigma attached to mental illnesses. Various awareness activities like mental health workshop, street mime, and a rally in the neighbourhood were part of the commemoration
• A workshop on ‘Argumentative Theatre’ was organized on July 15, 2017. The aim of this workshop was to introduce our students into the field of theatre
• The BA (Journalism) students attended a state-level seminar ‘AKIRA-2017’ on January 12, 2017 at Jain University, Bengaluru. The seminar was held to create awareness and remove the stigma that surrounds mental health and to create awareness about various mental issues.
• The BA (Journalism) students attended the annual media seminar ‘Expressions’ which was hosted by Convergence Institute of Media Management and Information Technology Studies (COMMITS) at Sri Satya Sai Auditorium, Koramangala, Bengaluru on August 10, 2016
• A two-day state level workshop was organised on ‘Academic Research in English – The What, Why and How’ for teachers of English on 31 March, 2016 and 1 April, 2016
• A workshop on ‘Movement Therapy’ was organized for all the BA students on 19 March, 2016. The aim was to guide students on how to deal with the physical movement of the body so as to enhance physical and mental well-being
• Deccan Herald newspaper conducted a two-day workshop for Additional English and Optional English students of St. Claret College on 1 March, 2016 and 10 March, 2016. The interactions the students had in the course of their visit gave them a valuable insight in the application aspects of the concepts they theoretically engaged in Journalism

The Department of English organized a one-day workshop on ‘American Literature: Reinforcing Acquaintance’ on 30 January 2013. Over 50 Optional English teachers from various colleges affiliated to Bangalore University participated in the workshop.
